The red tortoiseshell and cut brass inlaid case surmounted by a seated putti, the sunburst pendulum visible through the glazed door opening to gilt dial with enamel roman numeral tablets, the inside of the rear door & floor finely inlaid. The eight day Japy Freres movement, numbered 544, rack striking the hour & half hour on a bell. The whole dressed with gilt bronze mounts. Oval stamp to movement  ‘Japy Fréres et cie Exposition 1855 Grande Med. D’Honeur’.

The white enamel dial with blue Roman numerals and eight day movement, Brocot suspension with outside countwheel striking the hour & half hour on a bell. The Louis XVI style case with a pair of bronze patinated putti, allegories of astronomy, surmounted by an urn above a steeped plinth base mounted with finely chased gilt bronze. The case signed ‘H Picard’.

The acanthus cast rococo case of waisted form, retaining the original gilding, cast with central motif of musical instruments, flanked by flowers and scrolls with stepped plinth base. The open fretwork panels with red silk. The circular white enamel dial painted with floral swags and roman numerals, signed under the VI by the enameler ‘Baudet’. The eight day twin train movement with outside count-wheel, striking the hour & half hour on a bell. The movement with Samuel Marti Seal 1889, movement & pendulum stamped 888.

The initials JBD on the movement are a monogram of Jean Baptiste Delettrez who is recorded as living in Paris circa 1845 until circa 1885.

Charles Klaftenberger was trading from 1863 to 1881. Aubert & Klaftenberger traded in London from 1839 to 1857 and are recorded again in 1881. Alone or in partnership these two retailed some of the very finest French clocks.
