Antique Ormolu Candlestick Lamp after J D Dugourc

After Jean-Demosthène Dugourc (1749-1825)
A fine quality late 19th century, French, ormolu candlestick lamp. The gadrooned lion-mask sconce above a stem of floral draped female terms, on acanthus foliate-wrapped circular spreading base with bead border. Fine original gilding. Rewired.
With their triple female caryatid shaft swagged with floral garlands, laurel collar and domed, acanthus-cast plinth, these candlesticks are based on a design attributed to Jean-Demosthène Dugourc (1749-1825) in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris.

Antique Bronze Athena

A finely cast and chased mid 19th century, French, Grand Tour bronze bust depicting Athena, Goddess of war. Shown with flowing hair tied at the back, a helmet topped with a wrythen snake, looking straight ahead, the square stepped base cast with a leafy border and supported on a substantial Sienna marble base. Base with nibbles to marble edges.

A fine pair of bronze, ormolu & marble, mid 19th century French candelabra in the Louis XVI style. The patinated bronze putti seated cross legged on a naturalistic base, each supporting a pair of ormolu candle arms. The circular griotte stepped marble plinth bases with ormolu acanthus and bead cast mounts. Superb original matt & burnished gilding and patination. Discreetly drilled for electricity.

Antique Pair of Ormolu Mounted Porcelain Vases by Paul Milet for Sevres

Paul Milet (1870-1950) for Sevres

A pair of early 20th century ormolu mounted deep blue/purple Flambé porcelain vases. The flared tops above an ormolu band with tapering ovoid body standing on a flared socle and ormolu base. Marked ‘MP SEVRES’ to the bases.

Paul Milet was the son of the ceramist Félix Optat Milet (1838-1911). After training in the laboratory of the Manufacture de Sèvres, he became a chemist and worked in the factory founded by his father in 1866 at 8, rue Troyon in Sèvres. Paul worked with Félix until his fathers death in 1911, then with his son Henri, a ceramics engineer, who later was appointed director of the factory in 1931, father and son worked in close collaboration.
At the Salon des artistes français, Milet exhibited unique and utilitarian pieces: inkwells, vases, candlesticks. He obtained an honorary diploma at the Fire Arts exhibition in 1897.
At the Universal Exhibition of 1900, he obtained a gold medal for his earthenware “of pleasant shapes, decorated by the most diverse processes, cloisonné enamels, enamels on gold paillon. In all these decorations, Millet used with discernment the rich palette of enamels that he mastered.
Milet also exhibited at the Palais Galliera during the Porcelain Exhibition in 1907, then in 1909 and 1911 at the Exhibition of stoneware, earthenware and terracotta.
He abandoned porcelain production after the First World War.

An attractive French ormolu firescreen in the rococo style, from the first half of the 20th century. The original mesh mounted with three sprays of flowers, unusually cast issuing from the screen, inset a rococo scrolling acanthus cast frame, with triform feet. Retaining the original ormolu finish.

Antique French Ormolu Mounted Gueridon

A late 19th century, French, mahogany & ormolu mounted gueridon in the manner of Henry Dasson. The circular top with radiating veneers encircled by a gilt bronze rim, the panelled sides with scrolling ormolu acanthus friezes supported by four turned fluted columns headed by ribbon tied floral swags. The base with deep lattice sides, a device used by Dasson, standing on turned legs with toupie feet.

Antique Ormolu Mounted Table Bijouterie Vitrine

A late 19th century mahogany & ormolu mounted table vitrine of French influence. Of kidney form, the shaped bevelled glazed top with a fine marquetry border, opening to a relined interior. The shaped sides panelled with tulipwood and ormolu beading, standing on four fluted legs headed by rosettes and ending in cabriole shaped lower legs with sabots, united by a shaped platform. The mounts regilded. Although of French design, the locks and hinges of English manufacture.

A Napoleon III gilt bronze mantel clock in the Louis XVI style. The seated figure of the muse Clio reading from a scroll, supported by a shaped platform base standing on toupie feet. The white enamel dial with roman numerals, above a floral painted porcelain panel to the frieze. The eight day movement with Brocot suspension striking the hour & half hour on a bell through a countwheel. The case retaining the original gilding.
