Antique Pair of Bronze Mounted Marble Urns

A fine pair of mid 19th century, French, marble urns mounted in bronze and ormolu. The griotte rouge turned marble urns with flared rims, mounted to each side with a scroll handle, standing on a bronze flared socle with stepped marble plinth bases. The front recessed panel mounted with an intricately cast ormolu frieze, centred by a medusa mask, and supported by ormolu bun feet.

A French bronze figure of Napoleon from the second half of the 19th century. Standing in typical pose, his left hand resting in his waistcoat, sword hanging from belt, raised on a square stepped plinth base. Original brown patination with usual wear.

French Empire Ormolu Mounted Glass Vase

A fine late 19th century, French, ormolu mounted cut glass vase in the Empire style. The finely cut body topped with a flared ormolu neck, mounted to either side with swan handles. The stepped socle base with square plinth decorated with wreaths to the corners. Mounts re-gilded. Fine condition.

A fine pair of Charles X ormolu and patinated bronze candlesticks from the first half of the 19th century. The waterleaf cast drip pans above a bronze acanthus moulded sconce with a reeded tapering column support. The triform base with hipped paw feet resting on a concave sided plinth base.

‘Diane à la Biche’ /Diana of Versailles

A late 19th century, French, bronze figure of ‘Diane à la Biche’ (Chasseresse). Standing drawing an arrow from her quiver, her left hand restraining a rearing doe. Original dark brown patination.
The Louvre statue is a Roman copy (1st or 2nd century AD) of a lost Greek bronze original attributed to Leochares, 325BC.

Antique Pair of Onyx & Ormolu Table Lamps

A fine pair of late 19th century, French, ormolu mounted onyx table lamps. The well figured Alabastro verde bodies mounted with swags of vine leaves, flanked by bacchic masks with rams horns and a pierced frieze. The acanthus cast flared socle base with a square plinth. Sympathetically converted to electricity. Regilded & rewired. Cast initials to the mounts ‘JT’.

Antique Pair of Satyr Ormolu Candlesticks

A fine pair of 19th century, French, gilt bronze candlesticks in the form of young satyrs. The sconces modelled as a woven basket overflowing with fruit and flowers, held aloft by a standing young horned satyr, looking down with his hands on his fat belly. The square stepped plinth base with acanthus leaf and berried border. Retaining the original mercury wash gilding. The base undersides with cast ’H’. Very minor wear to gilding.

Antique French Empire Candlesticks Claude Galle

Claude Galle,(1759-1815).

Pair Of Egyptian Candlesticks from The Empire Period, ‘Retour d’Egypte’.
Fine pair of Empire period candlesticks, in patinated and gilded bronze. The central tapering column crowned by three heads of Egyptian women wearing the ‘nemes’ supporting the sconce decorated with palmettes.
The circular base with three pairs of feet to the priestesses, above a a band of stylized palmettes.

An identical pair were in the bedroom of the Emperor Napoleon at Saint-Cloud (ref: 1807 inventory). Then from 1837 to 1861 at the Grand Trianon.
In 1886 the pair returned from Versailles to the Garde-Meuble (inventory number GML 4927 001).
This pair of candlesticks is illustrated and described in “L’heure, le feu, la lumière”, the bronzes of the Mobilier National de Marie-France Dupuy-Baylet, on page 146.

Antique Pair of 19th Century French Charles X Ormolu Candelabra

A fine pair of French, Charles X, ‘Romantic period’ bronze & ormolu candelabra. The classically dressed bronze figures holding aloft a three branch candelabra standing on stepped plinths with hexagonal bases. Retaining the original mercury gilding. Usual signs of wear commensurate with age. Both with cast ‘DUB’ to each mount. Both numbered to each part ‘7’ & ‘8’ respectively.

‘Spinario’
A late 19th century, French, bronze figure of a seated boy removing a thorn from the sole of his foot. Rich chocolate brown patination. ‘Reduction mechanique’ seal to base, inscribed ‘Barbedienne Fondeur”.
Also known as ‘Fedelino’ or ‘Boy with Thorn’, the original Greco-Roman Hellenistic bronze sculpture is in the Palazzo die Conservatori, Rome. There is also a Roman marble version in the Medici collection, Florence.

A fine rosewood & ormolu mounted table vitrine. The glazed top with ormolu trim, opening to reveal the original velvet lined interior. The shaped sides each with cube parquetry panels, centred to the front and rear with a shell mount stamped ‘Linke 1763’, the four slender cabriole legs mounted with acanthus cast knees and sabots. Retaining the original gilding to the finely cast and chased mounts. Lockplate with original key, lock stamped ‘CT Linke Serrurerie Paris 7’.

A fine French Empire revival mahogany, ormolu mounted marble topped console table from the last quarter of the 19th century. Of rectangular form, veneered in quilted mahogany (Amarillo), the slim frieze above tapering columns to the front topped with ormolu caryatids, a bevelled mirror plate to the rear panel, with a platform base standing on hairy paw feet. The original thick marble top with a moulded edge. The reverse stencilled ‘ATELIERS ANDRAU & BLANC TOULOUSE’ 3454.

Antique Pair of Bronze & Ivory Dutch Figures by Joseph D’Aste

Joseph D’Aste, Italian (active 1905-1935)

A pair of gilt bronze & ivory figures of a Dutch boy and girl dressed in traditional costumes, standing with their hands in pockets. Both supported by turned onyx socles, signed ‘D’Aste to each base. Numbered ’54’ to the boys clog.

Born in Naples he worked as a portrait and figure sculptor in the early part of the 20th century.

Antique French Kingwood & Ormolu Small Cabinet by Alix

Georges-François Alix, French, 1846-1906

A fine French ormolu mounted purpleheart, kingwood, parquetry and Vernis Martin side cabinet. The breche violet marble top above a shaped front, the cabinet door painted with putti warming themselves by a fire, opening to reveal three walnut lined drawers, the sides with parquetry panels, standing on slender cabriole legs. Stamped numerous times to the carcass ‘ALIX’. Mounts cast with ‘ALIX’ from the master moulds. This version became Index No 1646 in the Linke Archive on the death of Alix.

Antique Ormolu Candlestick Lamp after J D Dugourc

A fine quality late 19th century, French, ormolu candlestick lamp. The gadrooned lion-mask sconce above a stem of floral draped female terms, on acanthus foliate-wrapped circular spreading base with bead border. Fine original gilding. Rewired.
With their triple female caryatid shaft swagged with floral garlands, laurel collar and domed, acanthus-cast plinth, these candlesticks are based on a design attributed to Jean-Demosthène Dugourc (1749-1825) in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris.

A finely cast and chased mid 19th century, French, Grand Tour bronze bust depicting Athena, Goddess of war. Shown with flowing hair tied at the back, a helmet topped with a wrythen snake, looking straight ahead, the square stepped base cast with a leafy border and supported on a substantial Sienna marble base. Base with nibbles to marble edges.
