The figure of Chronus, his arm resting on an hourglass & holding a scythe, is seated in the stern of a gilded boat propelled by Eros, standing on the prow. The shagreen base, depicting the sea, lifting off to reveal a bronze interior with sand sifter, pair of glass inkwells (replaced) and a pen tray. Retaining the original gilding and bronze patination.

The tortoiseshell and cut brass inlaid case surmounted by a fruit filled vase, the gilt dial with enamel Roman numeral tablets, with the eight day movement, numbered 3095, rack striking the hour & half hour on a gong. The whole dressed with re-gilded bronze mounts.
