A charming early 19th century French ormolu encrier. The figure of Chronus, his arm resting on an hourglass & holding a scythe, is seated in the stern of a gilded boat propelled by Eros, standing on the prow. The shagreen base, depicting the sea, lifting off to reveal a bronze interior with sand sifter, pair of glass inkwells (replaced) and a pen tray. Retaining the original gilding and bronze patination.
