A Napoleon III gilt bronze mantel clock in the Louis XVI style. The seated figure of the muse Clio reading from a scroll, supported by a shaped platform base standing on toupie feet. The white enamel dial with roman numerals, above a floral painted porcelain panel to the frieze. The eight day movement with Brocot suspension striking the hour & half hour on a bell through a countwheel. The case retaining the original gilding.

The shaped top with central  floral marquetry panel with parquetry border sliding back above a frieze drawer fitted with easel mirror and side compartments lined with silk, supported by four slender cabriole legs ending in gilt bronze sabots.

The original shade carrier above an openwork collar issuing from three figures of classical maidens depicting the sciences and arts, a stepped triform plinth below hung with garlands on flowers standing on a ‘Vert Maurin’ marble plinth.
Sympathetically converted from oil lamps to electricity. Rewired.

Antique ‘Grand Tour’ Bronze Mars & Minerva

A Pair of Continental, probably French, patinated bronze & parcel gilt figures of Mars & Minerva from the 19th century. Minerva seated with spear in right hand, shield in left, a rams fleece at her feet and an owl resting upon her head. The seated figure of Mars looking to sinister, wearing a plumed helmet, resting his right hand on a sword with an oval shield his feet. Both with stepped Belgian black marble pedestals with fluted columns to each corner. Lovely original condition. Small flake to front of Mars base.

Antique Commode by Georges-Francois Alix

Georges-Francois Alix (1846-1906) Retailed by Edwards & Roberts.
A late 19th century Kingwood, satiné & ormolu mounted Louis XV style commode of small proportions & serpentine form. The shaped Brèche d’Alep marble top above a pair of marquetry inlaid doors, opening to reveal three walnut lined drawers, flanked by rams heads mounts. The sides quarter veneered with satiné, and standing on slender cabriole legs. Labelled and stamped ‘Edwards & Roberts’ the top carcass stamped ‘ALIX’. Marble top with old repair. Mounts regilded.

Georges-François Alix (1846-1906) was established at 46, rue de Charonne and in 1878 moved to 6 bis, rue Richard Lenoir. He specialised in ‘meubles genre ancien, bronzes et marqueteries‘ and exhibited at the Paris Expositions of 1884, 1885 and 1889.

Antique Ormolu Candlestick Lamp after J D Dugourc

After Jean-Demosthène Dugourc (1749-1825)
A fine quality late 19th century, French, ormolu candlestick lamp. The gadrooned lion-mask sconce above a stem of floral draped female terms, on acanthus foliate-wrapped circular spreading base with bead border. Fine original gilding. Rewired.
With their triple female caryatid shaft swagged with floral garlands, laurel collar and domed, acanthus-cast plinth, these candlesticks are based on a design attributed to Jean-Demosthène Dugourc (1749-1825) in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris.

Antique Pair of Ormolu & Rosewood Victorian Easel Frames

A fine pair of mid 19th century Victorian ormolu & rosewood easel frames. The finely cast bronze frames with original matt & burnished gilding. The arched inset matted slip inset a frame moulded with garrya husks, flanked by berried leaves and acanthus scrolls to the lower corners, inset a velvet lined case with rosewood frame. The metal easel backs relined. Bearing label for J.W. Vokins. The backs easily taken off to inset an image.

Antique French Gilt Bronze & Marble Louis XV Style Aiguières Lamps Attributed to Paul Sormani

A fine pair of late 19th century French Louis XV style gilt bronze mounted verde marmo aiguières, later converted for table lamps. Each elongated reeded turned marble body mounted with finely cast and chased acanthus leaf and bulrush rims, looped handle and foot in the Louis XV rococo style. The mounts retaining their original matt and burnished gilding.

These Vases can be attributed to Paul-Charles Sormani. For a similar pair stamped ‘PS’ see Sotheby’s Lot 34 & Lot 35 Property from a distinguished Private Asian Collector.

These ewers are closely related to a pair of Louis XV gilt bronze mounted lacquer vases, by Jean-Claude Duplessis (1699-1774) housed in the Wallace Collection.
