The pierced cover with pomegranate finial inverting to a gilt candle sconce, above a flared body with cast acanthus decoration, the square base with floral baskets to the sides and a stepped plinth base.

A Napoleon III red Boulle and ormolu mounted mantel clock in the Louis XV style. Of waisted form the shaped case with allover cut brass and tortoiseshell marquetry, mounted with finely cast and chased gilt bronze. The eight day movement with Brocot suspension, rack striking the hour and half hour on a gong. The circular gilt dial with enamel Roman numeral tablets marking the hours. Movement and case numbered 7059.
Primarily a retailer and silversmith, Thomas Cox Savory is recorded at 47 Cornhill, London in 1838 when he exhibited in his front window a mystery clock by Robert-Houdin. Loomes records him there 1851-1857 and also as having premises in Paris from the mid to late 19th Century.

A late 19th century bronze figure of ‘Diane De Gabies’ cast by F Barbedienne, after the antique marble in the Louvre. The figure, standing by a tree stump, dressed in a chiton bound by two belts, pinning her cloak with her right hand. Original dark brown patination. Signed to base ‘F. Barbedienne’ with impressed seal to back plinth. Typical ink numbering to base relating to price and inventory numbers.
Barbedienne produced this model in 9 sizes, this being the third largest. Catalogued as ‘DIANE DE GABIES rajustant sa chlamyde’, (adjusting her cloak).

A late 19th century, Victorian, satinwood and marquetry inlaid satinwood cabinet on stand of small proportions. The moulded cornice above an inlaid frieze with a pair of astragal glazed doors below enclosing a polished shelved interior flanked by glazed sides. The base with a bowed front and inlaid urn detail, above a single mahogany lined drawer supported by four tapering square legs ending in spade feet and united by a shaped stretcher. The drawer stamped “Edwards & Roberts’.

Achille Brocot and Delettrez
A late 19th century green tortoiseshell and engraved brass inlaid clock in the Louis XV style. Of small waisted form, the case finely inlaid to all four sides and with original gilt bronze mounts. The eight day movement stamped ABD for Achille Brocot and Delettrez, rack striking the hour and half hour on a bell with Brocot suspension. The gilt dial with enamel cartouche roman numerals. Movement and case numbered 22176.
Jean-Baptiste Delettrez (1816-1887) went into business with A Brocot at 62 Rue Charlot in Paris in 1851. They exhibited together at the 1857 Universal Exhibition.

Gervais-Maximillien-Eugène Durand (b.1839)
A fine quality French, amaranth & satiné rouge side cabinet by G Durand, mounted with finely chased gilt bronze, in the Louis XVI style. The carrera marble top with pierced gallery, above a slim frieze with a pair of doors below inlaid with musical instruments, and flanked by open shelved sides, supported on a shaped table base with central drawer and standing on square tapering legs united by a platform base with pierced gallery. The carcass of quarter sawn oak and walnut drawer linings with original gilding to the mounts. The reverse variously stamped ‘G Durand’ with the ‘Marqué au fer’
Specialising in the production of 18th century style furniture of the finest quality, Gervais-Maximillien-Eugène Durand (b.1839) exhibited at the Universelle Exposition of Paris in 1889, gaining a silver medal, and the praise of the judges, who compared their work with that of Beurdeley and Dasson With his son Frederic-Louis joining him around 1890, the firm changed its name to Durand et Fils.

Discobolus of Myron
Early 20th century, Continental, ‘Grand Tour’ style bronze model of the discus thrower. Depicted arms outstretched throwing the discus, standing on a turned serpentine marble column. Dark brown patination.
The original Greek bronze is lost but the work is known through numerous Roman copies, both full-scale ones in marble, which was cheaper than bronze, such as the first to be recovered, the Palombara Discobolus, and smaller scaled versions in bronze.
