Antique Edwardian Mahogany & Marquetry Inlaid Bijouterie Cabinet

An Edwardian mahogany, satinwood banded & floral inlaid bijouterie cabinet of fine quality, and large proportions. Of rectangular form with serpentine shaped sides, the bevelled glazed top with inlaid borders above four glazed sides, a door to the front enclosing a single adjustable shelf, standing on four turned acanthus carved and reeded supports united by a wavy stretcher. Excellent condition.

An unusual Edwardian mahogany and satinwood crossbanded display cabinet. The arched top inlaid with starburst, a platform pediment above flanked by four turned brass finials, and a single astragal glazed door below enclosing a relined shelved interior with a single concave frieze drawer below. The rectangular base with a central deep drawer, flanked by a pair of cupboards, and standing on square section tapering legs.

Antique French Pair of Ormolu & Bronze Candlesticks

A pair of French gilt & patinated bronze candlesticks, in the Louis XVI style. Each cast as three putti standing back to back, holding bunches of grapes, supporting a single cast candle sconce with drip pan, the circular stepped base finely cast with acanthus leaf scrolls and beading. Stamped H to the underside.

A fine pair of patinated and parcel gilded table lamps. Of Grecian vase form, the central band cast with a relief of a dancing muse to both sides, the handles with swans heads, standing on a square stepped black marble base and gilt paw feet. Professional converted & rewired.

‘Loves fickle nature’
A fine French ormolu & marble clock garniture in the Louis XVI style from the late 19th century. Venus is depicted lifting the hem of her skirt, her head tilted back as cupid caresses her face, another cupid looks on from the side. The ormolu frieze mount in bold relief depicts cupids playing. The pair of candelabra with a figure of cupid holding aloft three sconces in the form of flowering stems, raised on marble plinths.The Samuel Marti eight day twin train movement rack striking the hour & half hour on a bell, No 629.

An impressive pair of ‘Grand Tour’ Continental patinated bronze & parcel gilded Medici vases standing on stepped Belgium marble plinth bases. The finely cast vases with bands of classical figures, flanked by loop handles rising from satyr masks, and standing on fluted spreading socles. The marble bases mounted with Medusa masks and supported by cast bronze feet. Retaining the wonderful parcel gilding and brown patination.

Mellier & Co Ormolu Mounted Desk after Reisner

Mellier & Co

A late 19th century, French, ormolu mounted parquetry inlaid desk after Jean-Henri Reisner by Mellier & co. In the Louis XVI style, the raised superstructure topped with marble & a pierced gallery, above pigeon holes flanked by small drawers. The base with a replaced leather writing surface, above three frieze drawers and standing on four square tapering legs, ending in ormolu sabots. Pencil inscription to the interior ‘Manufactured 1885’.

French born, Charles Mellier moved to England, worked for, and eventually took over the illustrious Aglo-French cabinet makers Monbro and Company, circa 1880. Working from Frith Street and later Margaret Street, he soon became a major force in designing and making furniture, and executing grand decorative schemes. The company furnished the great cross-Atlantic liner Mauretania and exhibited at the 1904 International Exhibition in St Louis.

After The Antique Diana De Gabies by Barbedienne

A late 19th century bronze figure of ‘Diane De Gabies’ cast by F Barbedienne, after the antique marble in the Louvre. The figure, standing by a tree stump, dressed in a chiton bound by two belts, pinning her cloak with her right hand. Original dark brown patination. Signed to base ‘F. Barbedienne’. Standing on a rectangular Belgian marble plinth.

Barbedienne produced this model in 9 sizes, this being the quarter size model. Catalogued as ‘DIANE DE GABIES rajustant sa chlamyde’, (adjusting her cloak).
