‘Gillows’ Mahogany Chiffonier

Retailed by A Solomon, 55 Great Queen Street, Attributed to Gillows

A George IV, mahogany, chiffonier. The rectangular top with panelled back and two turned reeded columns supporting a galleried shelf, above a pair of panelled cupboards, enclosing an adjustable shelf, flanked by acanthus carved trusses with moulded columns, standing on a plinth base. The door stamped for Abraham Solomon, Furniture broker (1839), a number of late Georgian pieces are known with this stamp. This chiffonier conforms to drawings by the firm ‘Gillows’.
