Antique French Kingwood & Ormolu Mounted Coffee Table

A late 19th century, French, kingwood parquetry inlaid and ormolu mounted coffee table. The circular top above a deep frieze, each side decorated with bacchic masks, a frieze drawer to one side, standing on short cabriole legs ending in sabots. Mounts regilded. The legs reduced in height to form a coffee table.

Antique Regency Rosewood Pier Cabinet

An early 19th century, George IV, rosewood & ormolu mounted pier cabinet. The rectangular top above a narrow frieze with split bead moulding, the single door below with silk pleating & original brass grill, flanked by half columns headed by a cast capital, opening to an interior with three adjustable shelves, standing on a plinth base. The three quarter gallery replaced.

Antique Barbedienne Cast Crouching Venus Bronze

Vénus Accroupie Cast by F. Barbedienne

A late 19th century, French, bronze figure of the ‘Crouching Venus’, after the antique marble at the Pio Clement museum in Rome. Barbedienne cast this in 5 sizes, this being a three tenths reduction. Signed to the base ‘F. Barbedienne’ & with ‘A. Collas” seal. Fine dark brown patination.

Antique Bronze Figure of the Discus Thrower Discobolus of Myron

Discobolus of Myron

A 19th century, Continental, ‘Grand Tour’ bronze model of the discus thrower. Depicted arm outstretched in the process of throwing the discus, standing by a stump. Dark brown patination.

The original Greek bronze is lost but the work is known through numerous Roman copies, both full-scale ones in marble, (marble was cheaper than bronze), such as the first to be recovered, the Palombara Discobolus, and smaller scaled versions in bronze.

A fine quality, late 19th century French mahogany and ormolu mounted stand. The Brocatelle violette d’Espangne marble top with a pierced gallery, above a concealed frieze drawer and slide, supported by slender cabriole legs and united by a platform stretcher. Corner chutes inscribed ‘FB’ from master moulds.

A pair of Napoleon III patinated bronze figures of winged cupids. Each figure holding a bow in one hand, a broken arrow at the feet of one, the other holding a love heart, supported by turned griotte de Campan rouge marble socles. Dark green patination.

A mid 19th century French bronze figure of the Borghèse gladiator. Depicted standing, his left arm raised, the finely cast and chased bronze with dark brown patination. Now standing on a later marble block plinth. ‘Reduction mechanique’ seal & signed ‘F. Barbedienne’ to the base.

The Borghese Gladiator is a Hellenistic life-size marble sculpture discovered before 1611, south of Rome, among the ruins of a seaside palace of Nero. Created about 100BC, it was acquired by Napoleon Bonaparte from Camillo Borghese in 1807 and now resides in the Louvre.

Antique French Charles X Period Bronze Tazzas on Marble Plinths

A pair of, French, Charles X period patinated bronze tazzas standing on sienna marble plinths. The circular dish tops with beaded rims flanked by entwined scroll handles, above waterleaf flared socles supported by stepped square marble plinth bases with a cast bronze rim. Underside indistinctly stamped ‘RAULERE’?

Antique French Kingwood Ormolu Mounted Vitrine on Stand

A fine late 19th century, French, ormolu mounted kingwood and marquetry inlaid vitrine on sand. Of serpentine form the shaped top with central galleried breche d’Alep marble above three glazed doors flanked by glazed sides, above a marquetry inlaid base with frieze drawer opening to a leather lined writing surface and small drawers, standing on slender cabriole legs ending in sabots. Mounts regilded. The three Cabinet locks stamped ‘Clement Linke’. Knee mounts with ‘MK’ from master moulds.

Clément Linke and his son, also Clément, were the primary suppliers of locks to François Linke. They also supplied locks that were lavish, unique and not inexpensive – the pieces his locks are found on are almost without exception of outstanding quality.

A handsome late Victorian side cabinet of serpentine form with three graduated drawers flanked by concave doors, profusely inlaid with marquetry. The roe mahogany ground with wide rosewood & satinwood crossbandings, inlaid with floral swags, and vases filled with flowers. Retaining good colour throughout and the original cast brass ormolu pulls.

Antique Louis XIV Style Boulle Clock with Japy Fréres Movement

Japy Fréres
A Napoleon III cut brass inlaid red tortoiseshell mantel clock in the Louis XIV style. The red tortoiseshell and cut brass inlaid case surmounted by a seated putti, the sunburst pendulum visible through the glazed door opening to gilt dial with enamel roman numeral tablets, the inside of the rear door & floor finely inlaid. The eight day Japy Freres movement, numbered 544, rack striking the hour & half hour on a bell. The whole dressed with gilt bronze mounts. Oval stamp to movement  ‘Japy Fréres et cie Exposition 1855 Grande Med. D’Honeur’.
