Antique Commode by Georges-Francois Alix

Georges-Francois Alix (1846-1906) Retailed by Edwards & Roberts.
A late 19th century Kingwood, satiné & ormolu mounted Louis XV style commode of small proportions & serpentine form. The shaped Brèche d’Alep marble top above a pair of marquetry inlaid doors, opening to reveal three walnut lined drawers, flanked by rams heads mounts. The sides quarter veneered with satiné, and standing on slender cabriole legs. Labelled and stamped ‘Edwards & Roberts’ the top carcass stamped ‘ALIX’. Marble top with old repair. Mounts regilded.

Georges-François Alix (1846-1906) was established at 46, rue de Charonne and in 1878 moved to 6 bis, rue Richard Lenoir. He specialised in ‘meubles genre ancien, bronzes et marqueteries‘ and exhibited at the Paris Expositions of 1884, 1885 and 1889.
