A 19th century patintated bronze ewer after John Flaxman. The figure of Neptune holding the neck, with dolphin’s head mask to the shoulder at the front, and flanked on each side by a swag of aquatic leaves. The flared socle base with square beaded plinth, supported by a stepped moulded rouge marble base.
Sacred to Neptune water ewer, Modelled by John Flaxman Snr. Neptune was the Roman name for Poseidon (Greek term), god of the Mediterranean.
