Claudius Marioton (1844-1919)
A French bronze figure of a young woman, standing holding a tambourine in her hands, supported by a naturalistic base. Lovely original dark brown patination.
Cast by ‘Soit Deacauville’, with impressed seal to rear, and numbered R292. The front with Presentation plaque ‘Sport Nautique Du Harve 1906’.

Claudius Marioton was born in Paris in 1844, brother of fellow sculptor Eugéne Marioton (French, 1854-1933), and studied under Dumont at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Exhibiting extensively at the Paris Salon, he was awarded honorable mention in 1879, a third-class medal in 1883, second class in 1885, silver medal at the Expositions Universelle of 1889 and finally gold medal at Expositions Universelle in 1890. He was awarded with the prestigious Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur in 1895 and died in Paris in 1919.
