Description

Carl Kauba, Austrian, 1865-1922.

A late 19th century realistic & humorous bronze figure of a young boy standing on a rocky base, a pained expression on his face as a lobster clamps to his finger. The circular marble base with a bronze socle plinth. Fine original chocolate brown patination. Signed to base ‘C Kauba’.

The son of an Austrian shoemaker, Carl Kauba, began his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and in 1886 he spent two years in Paris. His bronze depictions of Native American and cowboys are highly sought after. In addition to his American bronzes, Kauba produced a lifetime’s worth of Austrian statuary.
